Protein C and protein S deficiency - practical diagnostic issues.

Protein C (PC) and protein S (PS) are vitamin K-dependent glycoproteins, that act as natural anticoagulants. The proteolytic activation of PC by thrombin occurs on the surface of endothelial cells and involves thrombomodulin and endothelial PC receptor. In the presence of PS, phospholipids and calcium, activated PC (APC) inactivates membrane bound factors V (FVa) and FVIIIa by their cleavage at...

Investigating relationship between C- reactive protein and obesity in adults

Introduction: Association between plasma high-sensitivity C-reactive protein (CRP) concentrations and cardiovascular disease has been Investigated. C-reactive protein (CRP) is an acute phase reactant which is a marker of inflammation in the body. CRP is made by the liver in response to inflammatory cytokines such as interleukin-6 (IL-6) and tumor necrosis factor-α (TNFα). Adipose ti...

C-REACTIVE PROTEIN RESPONSE IN ANGINA PECTORIS

C-reactive protein (CRP) response was studied in 44 patients with acute angina pectoris admitted to the coronary care unit. 71 % of patients with acute myocardial infarction (MI)had positive CRP test while 73% of patients presumed to have unstable angina pectoris had negative CRP test. This test can be helpful in differentiating between acute MI and unstable angina pectoris.

Is there any Correlation between Cerebrospinal Fluid and Serum C-reactive Protein in Neonates Suspected to Meningitis?

Background: Meningitis is a common life threatening infection in neonatal period. Diagnostic value of CSF-CRP level in bacterial meningitis in children and adults has been studied worldwide, but there are limited studies on CSF-CRP in neonatal meningitis. This study conducted to assess any relation between CSF-CRP and plasma CRP levels and abnormal CSF findings in neonates suspected to meningit...
